A Festival For All (Comm 450)

During this week Asbury did event called Summer Solstice to celebrate the first day of summer at Asbury. So at the event residents were able to socialize, relax, and listen to music during the festivities. The role of AVTV in regards to this event was to record the event proceedings to be used to make a 10-15 min video for Asbury View.   There was also clips of the band that play a jazz style of music to the residents that also liked to entertain the residents with Congo line and clarinet twirling.
During the event I was tasked with taking video footage of the guest during the event and talk and mingle with the residents to get shots for the video. The overall clips taken during the event where group shots of guests at their tables, walking up to buffet line and few close up shots if they were willing.
Now after looking through the hour long footage and cutting then up into sections of material to use I was able to make around a 14 min video on the proceedings of the event to be shown on the program.   Then the process I made for the Summer Solstice picked up three songs to work with as background music and to see the band that played during the event. With the songs playing overlap some background footage that also happened during the event and splice them into songs when then slow points or the music fits well with the background footage.
The process of picking and choosing is picking out pieces that maintain attention to the video so you I would grab pieces of the band songs and add in background footage of the residents at the event hanging out and talking to each other, going up to the buffet, or any other fun experience to see the excitement of Summer Solstice.

The man behind the Camera (Comm 450)

Today was another new experience because I helped run the master control room for the show Asbury View. The show today had the usual opening and Afternoon at the Movies parts, but this week they added in having a interview with me for resident to know about me and a interview Cyber Asbury. The things I learned is the pacing of how cameras switch between each other during any news show you see they have a few camera angles and scenes shifts talking about their show. The program they use to record the shows is called Tri-caster.
The show Asbury View is recording SD, Standard Definition, they haven’t made the transition to HD, High Definition, because of all the rewiring of the control room need to be replaced. So this reminds me to re-switch the settings in Premiere so when I edit the footage there will be visual size issue that can appear when you edit SD footage in HD.

Another snippet of information I learned about they studio is their setups for when they have meetings, class, etc. in the theater. Now they have up to five mics, which are all wireless, because it’s the amount of channels they have on the soundboard they can use and its should be noted that when work with audio feeds that each person will sound different requiring different amounts of volumes to make then voices sound fine during the recording.
Now when in the theater have to test the mics to make sure it all speakers will be heard in the and then judge if the levels are in decent sound range that’s not to quite to hear or loud for the Asbury residents so keeping in mind that residents are elders a lower sound range that’s still hearable is the best. So keeping in mind the people or audience is always a constant reminder when editing, recording videos and found it very present when working for Asbury.

Starting Days at AVTV (Comm 450)

As I enter the gated community of Asbury Methodist Village I head over to the Rosborough Building and enter AVTV or know as Asbury Village TV to begin my internship. The manager of AVTV is Joon Kim and his assistant is Eric (last name?) . These two started my education on the goings of how to run AVTV Studio.  First on there list was to get better know of their studio setup starting with where the lighting switches are, how to set up the teleprompter, what there setup and resource they use for their weekly show they do on Tuesday’s called Asbury View.  Next they showed me the Master Control that handles all the audio and visual information received from the cameras.

Now the work I have been assigned during this week is to help edit their weekly show Asbury View. Asbury View is news show talking about activates happening during the week at Asbury and also residents and organizations talk about what they are doing for Asbury. The segments of the show that are happening this week where Afternoon at the Movies with Artha Jean, interview with Anita Taylor about Wildlife at Asbury, the Keene school awards, and Everything with Lenny. The show I edited together in Adobe Premiere and added in background footage during Wildlife at Asbury to that show the objects that will be on a Silent Auction that this organization is doing.

Next time I come back in I will be controlling the camera controls for their next weekly Asbury View and learn a base to work on. The next day I came in to work I was given their Sunday Service Show. The Sunday Service is a short assignment project of adding in the opening and showing the service that happened and then add credits, which are the main changed for each week. This is all that was during this week.
